GUNS

In my opinion, the only reason you need an assault gun is if you plan to assault someone. Military, police force, but normal people do not.

My brother had them, even an Uzi, BUT, he was a dealer and taught gun safety. I know about guns. I understand having them. I also know and understand the proper use of them.

I can not credit Roe vs Wade with a decrease in crime. I can blame drugs, and yes, video games. Kids kill on screen, and for some reason many of them think death is not real. I have seen kids who killed just because they want to, "know what it feels like to kill a real person."

My cousin has a lot of degrees and has worked in social work for years. She told me that in some of the classes she was in, they were told that drugs, esp crack and meth, destroy a part of the brain, and it does become a genetic flaw that can be passed on to children. The part of the brain that reasons right from wrong, just does not work. The only thing these children know is they want something, and they will get it. It does not matter what they have to do, they will take what they want.

This whole situation is horrible, and heart breaking. All the debate in the world about "why" isn't going to fix it. Making it so these guns are not available is the only solution. Do I want all guns gone? No, absolutely not. Assault guns? Yes.

@susieq : Very well spoken. We need to do something. Maybe making it much harder to get guns. How I don't know. I do know guns are very easy to buy off the street. Also stealing them very easy. But it still does not answer how to stop it.

@susieq: You wrote an interesting "opinion" on all that is going on... at this point it is another
chance to close the barn door after the horse got out".... but it is well worth reading... and I know our readers
in this forum will read it... It will never stop... sadly... the generation this 18 year old is in feel they can
do this and make a name for themselves... and they know they will die...doing so... but they won't be forgotten
...

@NJ99221 : Thank you, and I agree with what you are saying. Once again, just my opinion, but what a way to be remembered.

We had a ban on *some* assault weapons from 1994 to 2004. According to a 2004 study from the University of Pennsylvania, the number of people killed in mass shootings did go down generally during the years that the ban was in effect. The exception was 1999, the year that the shooting at Columbine High School happened. We need a better ban on these weapons entirely, imo.

What exactly is an assault weapon? You do know "assault weapons" are not automatic, meaning they only fire once when the trigger is pulled. Many hunting rifles are in fact more powerful than "assault style weapons". Just because a gun is painted black and has "tactical styling" doesn't make it more dangerous. Why stop at AR-15 style rifles lets just ban them all. How's that working out in Chicago and New York? Aren't most murders committed with handguns anyway? I guess that little bit of info doesn't matter. I wonder why playing cowboys and Indians as a child and shooting plenty of Indians as a kid didn't make me grow up wanting to shoot Indians as an adult? Sounds like excuses for personal responsibility to me. This kid was out to do harm and he was going to do it how ever he could. My question is if schools are all supposed to be secure now after all the school shooting in the past and I as a parent have a hard time getting into the school my son attends how did this kid get in the school?

Another thing guns are VERY NORMAL in Uvalde almost everyone there owns multiple firearms and knows how to use them even little kids. It's very rural and hunting is huge. Yes I do know this for a fact because I have cousins that lived there and would visit often growing up.

@Inb0913 : Interesting grandpa can't be around guns because of his past and does not talk to his grandson who apparently lives in the same house. Grandma takes grandson out for his birthday and then thanks her by shooting her. Wonder where the parents are at also.

Something I read said he wasn't allowed to graduate, and was always a shutdown loner. He got in an argument with his grandma over his failure to graduate, so he shot her, then took off with the assault weapon he bought on or the day after his 18th bday. I guess we should be grateful he left the 375 additional rounds of ammo in his truck.

@Blackbird : I read he worked at Wendy's. His manager stated He would do his job and leave and only return for his paycheck without ever socializing with any of his co-workers.

@MalluGuy : Yup, sounds like he didn't socialize with his family, either. That's a quote from his "mother's boyfriend'".
