The Pearland Police Department has initiated an internal affairs investigation after a police officer was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Officer Michael Gebert, a department employee since 2001, was in uniform and driving a department patrol vehicle at the time of the incident. The investigation was initiated when the officer arrived at work before beginning his tour of duty. Pearland PD conducted the criminal investigation and filed the charge. Officer Gebert was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“I am disappointed one of our officers is the subject of a criminal investigation,” said Chief of Police Johnny Spires. “I can assure the citizens we will conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations, keeping in mind the officer is entitled to the same due process as any other citizen.”

This is very sad. But I'm thankful he was stopped. Drunk driving is drunk driving no matter your profession

@Stealth83
I think it is being addressed according to the article. I’ll wait and see the results of the investigation before commenting on the officer involved.

I agree everyone deserves due process , but where was the officers when his ex filed a report on him , trying to warn Pearland Pd about his drinking problem ? Admin knew he went through A.A came out drinking worse than ever, never stopped , supervisors house party Gebert so drunk they had to drive him and little girl home because he was passed out drunk he destroyed his marriage , only allowed supervised visitation with his kid whom resides in another state because he violated court orders for 11 years , yet no justice for those lives he destroyed, put his ex-wife through hell and back . Karma I hope he goes to jail , another thing ..... why wasn’t he given random alcohol and drug testing ? Put breathalyzers in your patrol units Chief , Gebert is a discrace to the badge , and to the citizens that he arrested for breaking the same law ! What a slap in the face . Maybe justice will be served for the destruction he has left behind !!!

Well , Pearland Admin allowed him to take 30 days off Dec 2014 -Jan 2015 , he never stopped drinking , he was drinking while he was in rehab on his weekend passes , never stopped drinking , court documents state he was facing possible jail for violation of court orders for 11 yrs, lost his kid in custody battle, he is only allowed supervised visitation because he drinks until he passes out! Has anyone seen him lately ?? Someone beat the living $&@ out of him , but he will tell you he fell down !!!

He needs serious help. I guess he will go to jail, but I am not sure that will work. Maybe he will get sober in jail, though.

I worked for Texas Department of Corrections for 27 years.
If he goes to prison, yes, he will get sober and he will have AA courses he will have to attend. Will that change him ? ONLY while he is in prison.
I've seen many inmates that worked for me in the Maintenance Dept. get sober, take their classes, thrive and be excellent workers. At the end of their sentence, get released, go home and be right back in the prison system 4 to 5 months later.
It's a heart/attitude problem as much as it is chemical dependency. If that person cannot address all three, the chemical wins every time.

Well The question remains is this officer going to pay the consequences for his actions ? Has he been fired ? oh wait another question why wasn’t he charged with “ Unlawful carry of a weapon “ ? That’s against the law too being intoxicated !!! Hello Pearland Police Dept Chief ???? How long are you going to investigate when officer Gebert HAD to give either blood or urine why isn’t the public allowed to see his arrest record ? Maybe the news media should talk to his ex wife !!!

@Karmabites He needs to be fired , he is a known alcoholic , falling down drunk that refuses to do nothing more except continue to leave destruction behind , at what point will justice be served and stop giving him a slap on the hand or turn a blind eye , after he kills someone ? If we’re anyone else that wasn’t wearing a Police uniform they would be under the jail house !!!
