WARNING!!! Romani panhandlers
There is a Romani family that frequently panhandles in the Walmart parking lot and at the light at Miller Rd. and 518. I have offered them help and food on many occasions, they always refuse and only want cash. Whenever I see them there with their children I call the police on them. There is no need to be out in the heat with young children panhandling. They do own a van and take breaks going to the van and rotate female family members from there. There is always a male present in the van. I saw them out there today and called the police. The police usually come out and investigate and run them off. Today though I found out that the portion of Pearland that they panhandle from is not in the city limits but in Brazoria County and it's perfectly legal for them to panhandle there. It is illegal to panhandle within the city limits. Just a warning please do not give to these scam artists. She was holding a sign that said she had cancer today and was looking pathetic blocking traffic panhandling for money. Please give to your local charity instead.

@MalluGuy : It's sad. Sadly some folks don't want to work so it's much easier to panhandle. My opinion that's all

@Stealth83 : It's the same with parents who give their kids football helmets, jerseys, and sometimes even shoulder pads to go car to car begging for donations on Cullen near Beltway 8. What do they think they're teaching those kids. They're also putting them in harms way due to the heat and the traffic. I think its shameful. There are other ways to get money for legitimate ball teams. We're teaching lessons of irresponsibility that, for some, cannot be unlearned.

They also do the white van speaker scam around the Food Town parking lot area last year. If you are older and they catch you outside your home, sometimes they will try the asphalt scam on you.

They new scam going around Houston is the "pull over your wheel is flat"
or somethings wrong with your wheel and extort money from you, also the "I can fix that dent" scam. (they put some putty on your dent and mess it up more)

@DrewLundgren : I've seen those kids out there also. They just look like a bunch of neighbor hood kids or cousins of the completely irresponsible adults out there. They don't have uniforms and the helmets and pads look pretty old, they don't even look like they fit properly and are mismatched. They have been out there collecting money for years. I doubt even a cent of the money that has been collected goes towards anything football related. In fact I am willing to bet the money collected is used for beer and cigarettes and maybe a few ice creams to appease the kids collecting the money.

@Goodbye : I had a female friend that was scammed by one of those. "I can fix that dent for $50" guys in the parking lot of a grocery store. Why she believed she could get it fixed for $50 beats me. He said he would fix the dent and paint it and that it would look as good as new. He drilled holes all over her fender to pull out the dent. He haphazardly filled the holes with bondo. He then spray painted it with primer and announced it was "fixed"! It looked worse fixed than it did originally with the dent and she was out $50.

He looked at me funny and said" No if I did I would not be asking you for a dollar"🤦🏻‍♀️

@Lyn0811 : I was at the Kroger at 288 and Shadow Creek Parkway a while back and was approached by one of those guys with a white pamphlet collecting money for a church who helps drug addicts and the homeless. I like a moron pulled out my wallet. The way he looked at me and my my wallet when I handed him a dollar gave me the creeps! (I don't think he liked the fact I only gave him a dollar) I Know I was lucky that I didn't get mugged that day, Definitely not doing that again.

@Lyn0811 : Seems yo me that this people begging for money are everywhere. I used to help them but one day in the corner of Cullen and beltway I was looking for money and this guy knocked at my car window so hard he scared 😱 me so much I guess I was taking to long finding my money gladly the light turned green and I left not giving him anything. They are getting very aggressive

Sadly, those kids are legitimate football players on an actual team that plays in Bay Area Football League (BAFL). At least the ones I've seen out there. And I know because my boys played BAFL for the first 3 years we lived here.
Yes, there are better ways to raise money. Yes, that is completely unsafe for the kids. Sadly, those ill fitting helmets and pads are what those kids wear in games because their team is underfunded. Scrambling kids brains at a young age all for the sake of a stupid game.
THAT'S the worst part about those kids panhandling for donations- they're more likely to get injured on the field than on that street corner.

@squidgirl : If that's true I sincerely take back everything I said about them. But again I find it highly irresponsible of the adults to have those kids out there. The time and effort those kids and adults spend on sports and dreams of being in the NFL would be better spent trying to get a better education. Hence Asian kids being more successful as adults.
