@dot2101 : My kids had growth spurts often right before school. Everyone's experience is different. I always shopped at resale shops though.

@Dorothy : That's funny. I have boxes of Roseart crayons, markers, and colored pencils that are years old and still going strong.

@Dorothy : Most of the time you can find Crayola for less than $1 per box. I agree about the Roseart. They won't even stick to the paper.

@Dorothy : Please note that the school supply list might contain items that the school your child attends does not need or will use. What happens is representatives from each of the schools in the respective grades get together to decide what they want (instead of creating a list for your child's school). It is a collective list that is published. I inquired about this when my kiddo started school. I only buy basics and then after school starts find out what is actually needed. Graph paper - lol my son didn't use it at all in 7th and 8th grade (the math classes aren't that different). The spirals are the same; since it is a collective list. We had to buy a couple of different ones after school started. I also find it a waste that teachers have us buy spirals for the kids to cut and clue note sheets in there. I'm sorry, but spirals are used to actually write notes. If the teachers already have the printed sheets; use a 3 ring binder - not a spiral (total waste).

@squidgirl : I agree, but I do buy Crayola - on sale. I get the stuff on sale also. I do not buy everything on that list because it is a collective list and a waste of time and money. Buy the basics and then after school starts - get what is actually needed. My son has his own hand sanitizer and Kleenex that he keeps. Beware that sometime the school supplies at the dollar store might be a dollar, but less quantity; but not always. Poster board for projects is cheaper there; especially for a one and done.

Look toward the bottom right. You need to get the list for junior high schools on their respective websites. Their home page should have a school supply list there.

@dot2101 : Some kids do grow that much during the May-August period. I was fortunate not to have to buy new clothes each year until my kiddo hit the 6th grade. We had to buy new jeans since the prior ones were too short. There is also a dress code. From K-6th in Pearland the dress code is khaki or dark blue "uniform" shorts and then starting 7th grade and up the kids have to wear blue jeans - NO SHORTS. I truly do not understand that rule, but it is what it is!

I don't get the no shorts rule either. It is still so hot here when school starts.

@Soccer2018 : Thank you 😊...yes...when he came to live with me at 9 he was on medication for bipolar and ADHD. We worked on that really hard and by Junior High he was off of it. It was really hard some days with the anger...because I am not one to back down and I would literally egg him on. Then we would have to spend an hour are two going back over why he said and acted like that...because bipolar people do not remember what they do or say in that moment!

squidgirl : That is something I never ever understood. Why do parents think they have to go shopping for back to school clothes?? Ridiculous in my opinion. I do not think children have grown that much from end of May to end of August. I'm not sure if this time period is correct , but close enough , you get my point. Makes the stores happy though.

@dot2101 : My son was the same size for three years, but he was HARD on his clothes. I bought him new school uniforms every three or four months. Constantly buying one piece and trashing a piece, he was that hard on them. Then one summer he went to his grandparents in another state for a month. Came back the week before school started - four inches taller and twenty pounds heavier. I banged my head on a wall - NOTHING he owned fit, not even his socks.

@susieq : I agree that the no shorts is silly here. I think though that it is only for the high school now? I mean the shorts allowed are bermuda shorts not short shorts so I don't see the problem even for high school.
