@jrkbird : That is just amazing ...all that information at your finger tips...can you imagine how all that was stored before computers!

@Tom57 : The struggle is real. Lol I've been doing ours for about 3 years now. Train robbers, "Present". Mountain healer? "Here". Bootleggers? "Hiccup, Hyar we be*. And lawmen busting bootleggers? "10-4 ma'am". 😱
Actually it's so rewarding. Love family history. It takes you into The Revolutionary through modern day war, Prohibition, pictures of ancestors I'd never seen. You can look at the faces and see our current family resemblances.

Did the DNA Ancestry, found out I am 62% Irish (more than I thought). My cousins did research, found out that my 4th great grandparents all hailed from Ireland during the potato famine. The Irish are a hearty bunch, I appreciate my ancestors.

@jrkbird : I am willing to be involved if it stays local. I am retired with 39 years in Cardiology Research, have 40 years genealogy experience, was our DAR chapters register for 4 years when I brought in the most members in Texas 2013 n=54 (Friendswood Chapter), DAR genie, and past vice chairman of genealogy for the Houston area DAR. Also in DRT. The library on liberty has a nice large meeting room and I have given genealogy classes there for the DAR. I have about 130 new DAR members and 83 supplements to my record. [email protected]
What would the purpose be to organize this group?

@PearlandDotCom : I used Ancestry DNA, pretty dead on. Seriously thinking about using another DNA company just to see if I get same results.

@Sophie1 : I have tests of immediate family at all three testing companies. I also have a cousin that has our common paternal line tested. Between the two of us we manage roughly 50 separate DNA kits (roughly 20 are mine) across all three testing sites, plus third party Gedmatch that accepts all three (Ancestry, ftDNA, and 23andme download data).
I can most assuredly say they are as accurate as you can get!
I also have tested my own DNA independently at all three sites, with their various kits, and got the same results.
I tested my father at Ancestry for autosomal, and again at ftDNA for the big Y, as well as my son on both.... basically the same result with minimal differences.
I also tested my mother at Ancestry for autosomal, and ftDNA for mt full sequencing - again, basically the same result.

I have vetted the DNA accuracy to the best of my abilities and am happy enough with it to invest quite a bit of money into it.

@jm633 : The main purpose of the group would be to provide opportunities to learn additional research methods, tips, softwares, etc. as well as an opportunity for practical application.

I would like to see a monthly event, lasting approximately two hours. One hour of "lesson" or discussion, and the second hour of application/research and Q&A - hands on stuff.

@jrkbird : I am interested. I've been researching for about 10 years and have hit some walls.

My husband might get involved if some other men might get involved. His sister maybe but I am not sure. She has done his family tree since forever! I think it would be a great time to learn more (learn something new every day), meet new people who enjoy the same things!
