Okay, at first thought, I said that I wasn't coming near this discussion. But, of course I couldn't help myself. So, here I go:# 1: There will be so much more of this to come if these kids, teens, or young adults which all equate to immature, unsupervised, out-of-school, impoverish youth offenders, are not made to carry their behinds to some sort of school to get some sort of an education. I can almost guarantee that they have dropped out of school, or if they are in school, they are doing absolutely nothing to contribute to any degree of success in an educational endeavor. Illiteracy is out of control in this country and teachers are totally burned out trying to "reach and teach" the overwhelming number of challenged kids in so many of our public, poorly equipped, deteriorating school systems. #2: The other thing is this: where the hell are the parents, the Daddies especially??? These kids more than likely don't know the concept of what a real role model should be. I'm serious. Sadly, I've discovered that kids today don't have any degree of critical thinking skills. Their immature brains are not equipped for adult situations. That's why when they get into trouble, the first thing we ask them is: "What were you thinking?"Lastly, people, whether we like it or not, this is a SOCIETY problem where our dysfunctional, fearless adolescents are concerned. For one thing, we are living in fear of them. What a lot of them need is a good, old-fashioned *** whipping by good, old fashioned parents, with good, old fashioned leather belt.

@PearlandDotCom Mental and chronological age are two different numbers when it comes to the mental development of today's young adults. A lot of 20 year olds don't have the mindset of a 15 year old. Now, this does not give them or anyone else the right to do criminal activities. I have never seen so many hardcore, dumb kids in all my life. As a former teacher, I've seen the hardest kids break down and cry when they are made to look inward at the horrible person that is dwelling inside of them. Our Nation's children are definitely in big trouble. This goes for Blacks and Whites alike. The color of racism, bigotry, and greed is GREEN, NOT BLACK AND NOT WHITE. If we aren't privileged and filthy rich, we are poor and almost equally discriminated against.

WHY DOES RACE HAVE TO BE DRAGGED INTO IT. IF THEY WERE WHITE THEY ARE STILL HOODLUMS! That was my parents favorite word for kids that caused problems.

People would look at me & say I am white(not), Native American. I know what is meant by "we are living in fear of them". Parents are in fear of reprimmanding their kids cuz they will be accused of abuse. My parents were firm believers in a "good old fashioned *** whipping". That was enough to keep me in line. When they told me I was grounded for however long, it was no joke & that was the worst. Kids need parents not buddies. They have enough of those(friends).

I think you have gotten on the wrong forum for Pearland and maybe should look for one where people like arguing...because that is not what this forum is about. I'm sorry your having a hard time with this...but I think you took it out of context and only saw what you wanted to see.

@HillCountry Apparently, a lot of folks live in fear of the criminal elements among our youths. Take for example the little old lady or the young one for that matter who clutches her purse close to her chest because she fears that it could be snatched from her as she walks from her car to the grocery store. Take the police officer who pulls the trigger just a second too soon because he "feared" for his life. And, yes, even with guns, pepper spray, and batons, police fear these young "hoodlums" that they might lose sleep over because they've had to shoot a "child" down in the streets. Additionally, teachers fear these "crazy" adolescent boys and girls because many of them have been attacked in their own classrooms for trying to be both a parent and a teacher--trying to make a teenager without proper guidance behave like a human being. Yes, I admit, I have been shaken a few times by a belligerent child/teenager who had been terribly mistreated at home and by society. Perhaps, you have no fear of these troubled youths. But, I pray that you never have to use a weapon to hurt or for that matter kill one of them for their criminal or defiance actions. That's a fear in and of itself to me. My brother used to say, "I don't fear these young fools, I fear killing one of them and having to spend the rest of my life in prison as a result of it..." Finally, I know for a fact that many parents fear their own children. I cannot tell you how many tearful parents and grandparents have told me that they do! These kids who know no fear until it is much too late are something to be feared in both connotative and denotative terms.I truly hope that I have addressed your question as to who fears this population of "offending" youths.

@Lyn0811 I do not equate hoodlum with Blacks or African Americans any more than I equate the "N" word with Blacks. I equate ignorance to these words as they are both used inappropriately in most instances. See, I believe the problem is that many of us don't know the connotative and denotative uses of words with multiple meanings. Words typically evolve into good and bad uses as needed by the users. Please know that words can be very powerful weapons for good or bad. Words can destroy nations as we see, and words can heal nations if we allow them to. But, we all must know how to use words for the best impact. I used the word "*****" throughout my latest book because of how it appropriately tied to my history and experiences in that history. Now if someone called me the "N" word, it would be a cause for my retaliation to their sheer ignorance as an insult to me as a beautiful Black woman.Let us all take a deep breath before we speak out of anger and ignorance. In these trying times, I am trying to do just that.
