I'm totally disappointed in this post. I moved to Pearland 14 years ago because my JOB was transferred to Downtown Houston. I had NO CHOICE in where my office was - but I did have a choice in where I lived. I am from VERY RURAL North Louisiana, and at the time was a single mother of two very young children. Just moving to Pearland, which I chose because it was RURAL at the time, but close enough that in an emergency I could get to my kids (which happened several times!) - was still such a culture shock to my son he/we spent a few years in counseling to adjust. There was no way, at that time, on a limited fixed income, NO financial support from my ex-husband, and two kids, in a city all alone, could I afford to live inside the 610. And guess what, I still can't, and I make really good money now. ---

So for some people that work in Houston, commuting is the only way. - And if I had a choice between driving a 21 mile trip one way twice a day in traffic, taking me over an hour to get to work - or public transport via park and ride OR rail - you can bet your sweet cookies I'll take the public transport! -- Because for me, it is what is best for MY FAMILY.

@Jrkmorgan2 We also chose Pearland for financial reasons and because, being rural people, we liked the small-town feeling. My daughter moved into Houston when a job change doubled her commute time, but we can't afford to follow her. It's my understanding that Pearland is home to a great many people who work in the medical center,

@MarmaladeRiver If I had my druthers..... if there was a metro or a public transport option from Surfside to downtown, I'd live there!!! Even if it was a two hour commute, because I could do all sorts of stuff sitting for two hours with no where to go, and Surfside is so relaxing who couldn't be happy living there???? I'd read a book, plan a vacation, make my grocery lists, work on my to do lists, calendars, etc. I could even laptop it!
