Protected yes but I don't think most are boring. They've got multiple slides connected by swaying plank bridges with lots of opportunities for climbing. I think I would've loved them when I was a kid. But I would miss the merry go round.

Yes, the merry go round was hot as heck on summer days, but that didn't stop us kids

Yes... most of us have played on the old playgrounds.. I remember watching my
friend swinging so high she fell off backwards.. and the swing kept swinging back an d forth
over her till a teacher ran and grabbed the swing.... did she live ?? yep .. and had nothing broken..
I never enjoyed swinging after that...

@MalluGuy : It is hard to see how anyone could get hurt on this, but I am sure there is a way.

@Megyn1 : But you knew this was going to happen, and still played and enjoyed it. When the grands were little, we did away with the sand and used pea gravel instead. It made for better construction equipment use. When they were little, we had a pool, sandbox, platform with a basket ball goal on it, play house, and a trampoline. DD asked them if they wanted to go to the park one day, and they told her no. They wanted to come to our playground instead.

@susieq : The springs on those rides can pinch little fingers and the rebound on those springs are extremely dangerous if flexed beyond what they were designed for. An example would be a teenager riding the horse well beyond the weight limit and flexing the spring to its maximum.

I never got off of the merry go round! I remember having competitions to see who could stay on the longest!!! I always survived, because I was a skinny little thing from playing outside from dawn until my parents yelled for me to come home/inside, usually 10pm!
