Has anyone done a home energy audit? I thought in the past I had heard of electricity companies subsidizing a portion of the bill to assist homeowners.

@Stealth83 : I remember our A/C went out a few years ago right after we got back from a Jamaican vacation. Talk about horrible timing, we were not expecting a large repair bill right after splurging on vacation. Luckily I had an old small window unit that we used to use when we went tent camping that got us through the hot nights, at least it kept our bedroom somewhat cool and bearable vs the rest of the house which was in the 90's

We added the dark screens, they helped a bit. With these new widows, they are supposed to cut use by at "least 30%." Not yet, but the temperature seems to be more even throughout the house. The noise level has been reduced. We really don't hear cars go by anymore and unless I am awake and listening, I don't hear the 2am train go through. Can't say I am happy with them, WAY overpriced, but they do meet the new regulations.
