YOGURT OK, I am really getting into making yogurt in the Instant Pot. It is so easy, and the taste is so much better than what you can buy. If you have one of the pots with a yogurt cycle, you really need to try it.

@Stealth83 : I bought an Instant Pot with a yogurt setting just for that reason. 1 large container of Fairlife milk, 2% works for me, 1/2 can sweetened, condensed milk, 2 Tbl plain yogurt, vanilla extract if you want it. Mix this really well, put in the instant pot, cover with a large plate, and push the Yogurt button. 8 or so hours later, it will beep. Remove the liner, cover with some paper towels and a plate, then put in the fridge overnight. I have every one in my family eating this now, even the yogurt haters. You don't have to add the sweetened milk, if you don't, just add 1 TBL of plain yogurt. I bought a yogurt strainer, and I let it sit in the fridge overnight. Next morning, I put it in this strainer, and let it drain off till it is as thick as I want it. You can take it all the way to cream cheese thickness, add some onions or other herbs, and use it on toast, bagles, or even a potato. There is a large yogurt group on Facebook and you can even make non dairy yogurt. I figure the cost for this recipe is less than 6 dollars for 8 full cups of yogurt. The store brands are over a dollar per cup, and maybe 6 ounces. I paid less than $50 for the Instant Pot, and it is getting a workout. Google cold start method for yogurt for a lot more information.

@Stealth83 : We do too. You can up the protein content by adding a bottle of liquid protein or 1/3 cup of powdered milk. There are so many recipes, this is just the one I have found that works for me. I am sure I will try more.

@cocosmom : I had a small one, but when I saw that I could do yogurt, I bought a 9 in 1 in the 6qt size. I just watched for sales. In cooking groups, most people do not like the slow cooker feature(hello, who does not have a Crock Pot?) and most don't like the browning/air fry feature. Last night, I once again made pulled pork in less than an hour. Earlier in the week, I made stew, again. The yogurt will keep for about 8 days, but it does not last that long around here. I find it has much less "tang" that most of the yogurt you can buy, and I like being able to control the texture. I make fruit or use fresh, but you can even use canned pie filling. I use single serving size glass jars, layer it, put a lid on it, and keep it in the fridge. It is easy for anyone to grab a serving, and the jars go in the dishwasher instead of the trash.

Ok, after letting it drain overnight, it is thick enough to stand a spoon in. I have 6, 8oz cups of yogurt. Milk was $3.60. yogurt was around .50, because I only used a small amount, condensed milk was $1.25, vanilla, since I make it myself I have no idea. this comes out to a little bit over $6 for 48 oz of good quality yogurt, with whey left over to start my next batch.

@susieq : Thank you so much. My family and I eat allot of yogurt. I might have to try to do this when things settle around the house. When I get some time, I might make this. Appreciate you sharing this recipe.

@cocosmom : I love mine! I've had it a bit over a year and I'm going thru withdrawal because I haven't unpacked it yet. You can cook almost anything in it! Great hard boiled eggs, perfect rice, egg bites a la Starbucks for breakfast, etc. Plus very elaborate meals, which I've done a few.

@cocosmom : Just follow directions. So many people are afraid when they hear "pressure," This is not your grandmother's pressure cooker. While I am sure it could be done if you were determined, I have yet to hear of one of these "exploding, or blowing up." They seem to be very safe and so much easier. Sometimes, I don't have a clue what I am going to fix, so forget to thaw anything. Frozen meat in the IP takes no longer to cook than thawed. To me, making mashed potatoes isn't that big a deal, but there is a whole culture out there who only use the IP. Eight minutes cook time. There are web sites, Six Sisters is one, youtube, and groups on FB. Bunches of cook books, too. If you have one, learn to use it, you won't be sorry.

I have several web sites that have healthy, scratch cooked foods. There's a lot of sites out there that use only package foods, and I'm cooking to get away from that.

I am not a fan of packaged products. Pasta is about as packaged as I get.
