Life Skills House is pleased to announce that our multi-family home is open in Brazoria County. Since 2013, we have been providing job search and continuing education enrollment assistance, transportation, mentorship, spiritual nurturing and practical life skills training. With the assistance of our amazing donors, volunteers and community partners, we were able to achieve an ultimate goal by adding a multi-family housing program to the services we provide. On Thanksgiving Day, 2017, we were able to open our doors which allowed a young mom and her daughter in particular to be rejoined under one roof after being separated for quite some time due to financial lack. Since then, they as well as other families we serve are growing leaps and bounds as they are working a plan toward achieving financial independence.

Life Skills House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Christian organization dedicated to helping multicultural young women, including but not limited to, those who were victims of human trafficking, those who are pregnant and single mothers from economically challenged backgrounds. In addition to the young ladies we serve in the community, we plan to serve as a second phase for young single moms who have completed a program at a maternity home, safe house or shelter as they are desiring to be rejoined with their children, but are finding it hard to make ends meet. We are committed to redirecting the life course of two generations at once as we give a hand up to those who are seen as a liability in the community so that they not only become active, productive citizens, but also become huge contributors in making our community a better place to reside.

Unfortunately, 80% of young single mothers end up on welfare. Many of them are trapped in a viscous cycle of unemployment since they can not afford childcare or transportation. In addition to our other empowerment programs, our housing program provides a controlled environment where these families can come aside from their intense financial struggles for a two year period and implement their new found skills. Our God-given calling and passion is to walk alongside these families until their season of merely surviving transitions into a lifestyle of thriving. With the generous support of our community and two years of one-on-one coaching, they will achieve a lifetime of self-sufficiency!
