Pearland Run-Off ElectionMayor Tom Reid will continue his service to one of the fastest growing cities in Texas, Pearland. Reid, 91, edged out Quentin Wiltz with 59.37% to 40.63% in the June 10th run-off. Reid, was the longest serving Mayor in Pearland during the years of 1978-1990. He then took a break and came back in 1995 and will now continue to serve past 2017. Pearland has an estimated population of 120,000 residents and encompasses approximately 48 square miles. Pearland residents make up parts of Brazoria, Harris and Fort Bend counties. And the city continues to grow…. One of Reid’s major platforms in this election was transportation, which is an obvious issue to Pearlanders throughout the city. Supporting the Hwy 288 expansion and the Sam Houston Parkway expansion of lanes, were two of the areas Reid showed support.For the newly created City Council Position No. 7, both Woody Owens and Dalia Kasseb actively campaigned for this sought-after spot with the City of Pearland. Owens ended up on top with 58.30% of the votes to Kasseb’s 41.70%. Owens co-founded the Greater 288 Regional Partnership, which also encourages the expansion of Hwy. 288.As we hear during every election, your vote counts! In this election, out of 69,286 registered Pearland voters, there were only 13,437 who turned out to vote.
