Message from the City of Pearland | Mask Order Update 3/3/2021

The Governor is ending the facemask mandate and capacity limitations for businesses effective March 10th. Order GA 34 open.texas.gov/uploa ds/files/organizatio n/opentexas/EO-GA-34 -opening-Texas-
supersedes any local orders – meaning the City of Pearland is unable to implement its own local mask requirement order for the general public.

What does all this mean for Pearland residents?

• The local mask order signed by Mayor Cole expired on 2/27. Partly because the State mandate was in place, but mostly because voluntary compliance has been achieved, and enforcement of non-compliance isn’t possible.

• Now is the time to take personal responsibility. If you want to wear a mask, continue to do so. If you don’t want to wear a mask, be respectful of those that do.

• City internal protocols will not change at this time. Masks will be required for City employees on duty when moving around City facilities or interacting with the public. By the nature of our local government work, they are engaged with members of the public in a wide variety of settings and will continue to do the utmost to protect their team and the community.

•Public meetings will continue following social distancing guidelines, and virtual options will continue to be available.

• Businesses don’t have to require masks and can open back up to 100% capacity. Their hope is that businesses will follow their lead and continue safe practices.

• Review the CDC guidelines and make good decisions with validated and reliable available information: www.cdc.gov/coronavi rus/2019-ncov/index. html

• The City continues providing vaccine services at our point of distribution as do public health agencies to eligible 1A and 1B populations. Please subscribe and pay attention to City alerts which you can find at www.pearlandtx.gov/r esidents/get-connect ed/e-alerts/-fbclid- IwAR1J51u4JSE-3

The virus continues to exist in the community, and we need to remain vigilant and make good decisions.
