The Pearland Fire Department has launched its own Citizens Fire Academy (CFA), and applications are now open until March 31. The six-week course, which will run from April 6 to May 18, is a great way for adults aged 18 and above who live or work in Pearland to learn about the Pearland Fire Department and what it takes to be a Pearland firefighter. The program is limited to 20 participants, and classes will be held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m. There will also be a field day on Saturday, May 13, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants in the CFA will receive an overview of the Pearland Fire Department's history, its divisions, and its functions. They will also acquire skills in basic first aid and CPR and become familiar with services provided by EMS. Additionally, they will learn about firefighter roles and duties and observe firsthand firefighting, search and rescue, vehicle extrication, and emergency response vehicles through the usage of professional firefighting equipment. It's important to note that the program WILL NOT certify participants as firefighters. However, it's an excellent opportunity to learn about the Pearland Fire Department and the vital work they do to protect the community.
