@Linakatx21 : I don't know, but ours was removed in front of our community's main office building, McHard and 288, recently. Heard it was vandalized but then they removed it.

@Linakatx21 : The mailboxes been close for a while now. Always go inside to send my Mail. Tho I heard that some were vandalized in other cities maybe 🤔 that's the reason why. Probably we need to call the postmaster on that location

I have had several neighbors tell me that they have been victims of theft because of those outside mail boxes at the Post Office on Walnut. I guess the police and the PO got tired of dealing with the issues and removed them. This just makes me sad. I can't believe our society has gotten to a state where it's unsafe to drop something in a mailbox. Stealing mail is a federal offense. I guess people are not scared of those consequences anymore.

It's my understanding the boxes were removed because they were being broken into to steal the mail to get checks that were being mailed. There is also a big problem with mail being stolen that you put in your own mailbox for the postman to pick up.

@Birdlady : I read last year that if you are sending a card or money, try to make it look like normal mail. My husband didn't believe me, so he sent our grandson a card last year in an obvious envelope, with money inside. It was mailed from inside the Walnut post office. It never got there. He lives in Cypress, and they have community mail boxes like most of the subdivisions down here have. I try to avoid mailing anything now, unless it is registered, because I just don't trust the post office any more.

@GoOilers2019 : I have used those outside mailboxes at the Walnut Post Office. I wonder how anyone is able to break into them, and yes, I know they get the mail from the back as I have seen them taking the mail out, but surely they must be pretty tough to open. When people do things like stealing from outside mailboxes that are in plain site, either they are easily opened, or there is no traffic that time of day. Now, we have to park and go inside the Post Office, which is not that much trouble, but the outside boxes were convenient.

I had a gift card from this site mailed to me, I got the opened envelope in my locked mail box! The odd thing is the second one, that same day, was unopened.

All my bills are auto pay to credit card. I don't trust the mail, not do I trust writing checks.
Too many checks have been washed and rewritten. It had not happened to me, so I've been lucky. It happened to a friend of mine and good thing it was a small community bank where they know her because they called her to verify she wrote that check for that amount.
This world is really getting bad with dishonesty.

I don't use regular checks to send as gifts. In fact, I don't use checks anymore. Last year, in February I sent a cashiers check for a birthday gift. It was stolen out of the mail box at Walnut. Both the boxes were so stuffed that you could reach in and grab many pieces of mail. The Post Office had missed the box pick up for a couple of days, I guess. Well me knowing it is a Federal offense, I never thought it would be stolen. I stuffed the birthday card in as far as I could, knowing that the next pick up was less than 30 minutes. They missed that pick up as well. The card never made it! However, I went to the bank and reported it and they reissued the $$ in 90 days. The check was never cashed. If I'm not paying bills on-line, I send cashiers checks as they are impossible to "wash" and you can get the funds back from the bank if it was lost or stolen.
Yes, that is why the boxes were removed. Thieves. I know in California, the mail boxes were removed several years ago. I remember visiting here and spotted a blue mail box near the park. I took a picture and posted it. I was surprised to hear that Washington State was in the process of having the boxes removed. It's one of those things of the past. Much like dial phones and record players. The BLUE BOX, as I call it, seems to be a memory.

Yup, they took ours out back when cc scammers on gas pumps and stolen mail were just getting to be a problem. Our local PO had someone put something sticky in the slot, so they could reach the mail easier. I walk stuff in, or leave it in my locked box for pick-up.

@Ella : I do believe the word convenience is a word of the past. Seems like not much is convenient.

@GoOilers2019 : There is a reason that we cannot place our outgrowing mail in an outside mailbox and that is theft which has been discussed here. But why, when years ago we could feel safe putting our outgoing mail in an unlocked mailbox in our yard or house. What has happened to people that they have no conscience and if they want something that belongs to someone else, they just take it? In God's Word, He says that "Thou shalt not steal." So, have people become so calloused that what the Bible says means nothing? I would like to see a discussion of what has happened to our society and why.

Around the last Presidential Election, drop boxes at the post office were broken intoand contents removed. Coincidence? I think not, but with the growth around here, comes crime so I'd guess we will never see those drop boxes again. They'll disappear everywhere eventually.

@Megyn1 : Exactly! I had the little with me when I made a trip to the PO a couple of days ago. I had to get her outta her seat and take her in, just to drop a letter inside. THEN I had to get her back in her seat bf we could forge forward with our day. I agree, " convenience" is going away.

@cocosmom : Well, convenience: think how convenient it is for the crooks to just drive up and find a bunch of checks.
