That is why we have 6. Peanut is trying to talk me into another dog now. Not going to happen.

@Acg7707 : I feel the same way. I love 🐶!!! I wish I could take them all in and give them love and attention.

@Knk : No. Other grandson has a friend who raises German Shepherds. He can get me one "for free." Think back yard breeder with back to back litters. This would just be asking for trouble I don't need. Vet bills have taught me there is no such thing as a "free dog." I also just don't feel up to taking on another large dog at this time in my life.

@susieq : I completely understand. We have incurred significant vet bills with our fur-baby too but it has been worth it. I know you take care of your kid, hubby and fur babies already. It's hard when you are taking care of several people in your life.

@Knk : Of course they are worth it. I would never have more than I can take care of, and 6 is my limit. I feel sorry for animals that only get basic food , water, and not enough attention. It takes more than food to really take care of them.

What back yard breeders did to the German Shepards should be criminal. All those poor dogs, and their owners!

@Blackbird : That is so true. But it is the same with many other breeds. I call it the Disney Effect. Any time Disney made a movie and used a certain breed, it pretty much ruined the breed. Lady and the Tramp ruined Cockers. Cockers were used for hunting. Over breeding to get them out quickly they no longer hunt. Many have health issues that were not there before, and they are not always the best dog for children. 101 Dalmations wrecked that breed. They are also a working breed, not geared to be a cuddly family dog. When the dogs do not respond like the cartoon, they are discarded. There are breeders trying to repair/preserve many of the breeds that have been so manipulated. Over the last 40 years, I have purchased 1 dog, and even she was a rescue of sorts. There are so many that need homes. I have had Labs, Yorkies, Poodles, and many mutts. It isn't like there are not enough rejects in the world to go around. OK, off my soapbox.

Both mine (litter mates) were mutts, they were the most perfect dogs. Yeah, everyone says that, but I'd only had cats all my life. The housetrained themselves, they were loyal and protective, they were nearly perfect.

@Joyful3422 : I hope your baby is ok. Your kids need to save and earn themselves and not rely on their parents inheritance. You worked hard for what you have and that should be your $ to spend. I don't expect anything from my family.

@Knk : Oh trust me both daughters are doing much better than us, but I want to leave them some extra, as I was blessed by my Mother and Aunt and Mother in law, with a wonderful inheritance, wasn't hurting for anything but gosh it was nice!
