Update from Pearland ISD on Use of Face Coverings
Governor Abbott has rescinded the statewide mask mandate effective, Wednesday, March 10, 2021. At this time, Pearland ISD awaits further guidance from Texas Education Agency (TEA) which oversees public school districts in the state. Because student and staff safety remains their priority, they will continue their mitigation efforts and protocols, which includes wearing face coverings, as originally mandated by TEA. Pearland ISD will notify everyone of any changes that may occur.

@PearlandDotCom : It's important to note that Governor Abbott's Executive Order does not tell people to quit wearing masks. It is just no longer a statewide requirement under the State of Texas' authority. We still need to use common sense. Texas has 254 counties. Only 37 of Texas' counties have populations greater than Pearland alone. Texas has eight counties with populations below 1,000 people. It simply doesn't make sense to impose a mask mandate in remote, sparsely populated counties where COVID transmission rates are zero or near zero. But in places like Pearland, it makes sense for people to continue taking precautions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Let's all be smart about this.
@Drew : I hope it works out like this. I hope cities step forward and impose restrictions that are in the best interest of their citizenry. If it is left to individual business owners they are more apt to do what is better for them as a business than what is good for the city as a whole.
@PearlandDotCom : Such a serious subject, could end up being a hard choice,
