Thurman "Bill" Bartie is running for the US House of Representatives for part of the Pearland area. Since the Republicans in our state are unable to win on their platform to make citizens lives better, they rely on stretching out districts to dilute the vote in our area and other metropolitan areas as much as possible. The district Thurman "Bill" Bartie is running in goes from East Pearland all the way to the border with Louisiana. He probably has more name recognition in that area as he was a Justice of the Peace and the former mayor of Port Arthur among his many other accomplishments. His platform is people oriented rather than trying to play the culture wars of the other side. I am copy and pasting his platform from his website below. He is certainly a candidate worth considering if we want to support public schools, local infrastructure, and investing in our communities rather than starting unnecessary wars and increasing our national debt with frivolous vanity projects and in the national capitol and tax cuts for the rich. To build affordability in this economy, we need policy that will roll back tariffs which have raised prices, clearing barriers to build more affordable housing. Promoting more competition in industries ranging from healthcare to food processing.Immigration
Our present immigration system has failed the American people. The present system hasn't been updated since 1990. The homeland security budget for ICE is $70 Billion dealing with mass deportation. It has resulted in major uproars in our cities and has led to loss of human life. I would push for Immigration reform that is humane in our present environment.
