Police Investigate Possible Shootout on Veterans Drive
Pearland police responded to reports of gunfire early Sunday morning after several people called 911 about possible shots fired near Veterans Drive and Walnut Street. According to police dispatch audio, the calls came in around 1:45 a.m. Witnesses told dispatchers they saw a white pickup truck and a silver sedan pull up side by side, followed by visible muzzle flashes. One of the vehicles was reportedly last seen heading south on Veterans Drive.
Officers searched the area and checked nearby Centennial Park, which they reported was clear. Dispatchers also reviewed traffic cameras at Veterans Drive and Magnolia Street. The cameras showed a couple of white trucks passing through the intersection, but neither appeared to be speeding or traveling with another vehicle. Officers later found shell casings at the scene that appeared to be from a .223 caliber round. Police blocked off the intersection so evidence could be collected.
Just minutes earlier, officers were also sent to a separate report of shots fired near North Washington Street and Broadway. It is not yet clear whether the two reports are connected. The dispatch reports did not mention any injuries, and no arrests have been announced.
