Meal Delivery Service

Since Covid has hit, we have been having most of our restaurant orders delivered.

Today I decided to see what the price difference was. I went to Panera Bread and they offered a $1 delivery fee. Sounds good right?

I put our order in and the total came out to $59 for 4 adult, one sandwich, one salad two soups no bread bowl, and two kids turkey sandwiches. I thought that sounded a little high because that didn't include tip.

I went to pickup and placed the same order total $45.

I didn't realize that the delivery services were putting their own price on the foods plus adding in a convenience fee plus a delivery fee.

Needless to say, from now on I think we will do pickup.

That's what's behind all those ads for Domino's giving away coupons to eat at local restaurants. It's a way to undercut the delivery people.

@Blackbird : Yes, I watched those commercials a few times to figure them out. I also learned the delivery companies only deliver certain meals for restaurants. I didn't know the limited menu items are set by the delivery companies. Geesh.

I figured that out, mainly because Door Dash wouldn't let me order what I wanted off the menu. Then, their prices are higher than the restaurants. I just go pick up my food, and save nearly enough for the next meal.

@Magnolia832 : Isn't the food cold by the time it's delivered to your door?
I order then curbside pickup, so fast and easy, though do see delivery services all the time picking up also. Emoticon

No, they've got the delivery portion down. I've never had a bad delivery, food is always hot and perfect. Just remember that if someone delivered it to you then you are paying for a delivery service's overhead, the wage for the driver, etc. In most cases, you're cutting into the restaurant's profits, too.

@Magnolia832 : Thanks for the info. Some I am sure would be ok with this. I was hoping it would be good for a friend. But my friend can drive so better to order and pick up a curb.

@NJ99221 : I used to every Friday meet up with friends.
I'm delaying eating out for now.
All my friends have covid or recently recovered.
I sure do miss those care free nights out. Emoticon

I think we have eaten out twice since the whole Covid thing started. We have ordered pick up a few times, but I am really not comfortable doing that.
