I looked back in this forum a couple of years, & people were criticizing Hunter Biden for invoking his dad's name to potentially make money in business dealings. Now, our current president and his family are using the office to make as much money as they can from both foreign governments, and our tax dollars through no contract bids to their close associates & suing the IRS for billions among other schemes. Also, there are random pardons to people with money who have been convicted of crimes that seem unwarranted, & a bit coin debacle that seems to have made them money while losing a lot for their investors. I don't hear anyone speaking up to condemn any of this behavior. Is no one else concerned about the direction our country is taking? Federal agents coming into our extended community to be judge, jury & executioner, with no expectation of consequences. The destruction of public schools, the White House, our international reputation, faith in the integrity of our local elections & public health, environmental & safety regulations are all happening with too little pushback. Don't even get me started on the obvious mental decline that everyone was alarmed by about President Biden, but the glaring problems with President Trump's mental lapses are totally ignored. Things like "the Islamic Republic of Japan" in a recent speech? We need to be honest with ourselves. Is the country going in the right direction? We have an affordability crisis that needs to be addressed & an adminisration that is not responding to make it better. The stock market is not the economy. Closing businesses & inabilty to sell homes indicate a crashing economy. Rant over, for now.

If we want change we need to vote for younger, more progressive candidates. Supporting, canvassing and voting for James Talarico would be a good start. All his opponents seem to do is resort to name calling. They don't want to debate the policies he is promoting to make government work for us instead of large corporations and ultra wealthy donors that need a support yacht for their crew and so can't afford to pay their share of taxes. Trickle down economics doesn't work when exorbitant CEO salaries suck up all the profits for a job an AI model could probably do better. Let's not continue to vote for a known cheater and expect them to change. Paxton isn't even divorced yet and has been seen gallivanting around Europe with another woman in an oddly long dress for streetwear. Yes, I'm judging her for making bad choices. We shouldn't do the same at the ballot box.
Unfortunately it's often times party loyalty. Paxton is one of the most crooked politicians out there but that doesn't seem to matter to people that vote for him. I have never had loyalty to any party. I have voted for Republicans and Democrats for president. I look at the person not the party and decide who to vote for. Who would I be proud to say I voted for.

Up until recently I did the same, but it seems like no one is left in the Republican party that will call out bad behavior in their own party. John Cornyn's ads in the primary were pretty damning to Paxton, but his disgust with Paxton's apparent ethical lapses don't seem to be enough to make him break with the party and continue to call him out. Graham Platner was forced out due to too many issues to ignore. Similar or worse ethical concerns aren't condemned by Republicans, so it's hard to trust any of them to put the public good ahead of their party's grip on power. In the end, politicians are judged more by the things they didn't stand up to than their successes.
