Our first pear sculpture is being installed at State Highway 288 and McHard/Shadow Creek Parkway in Pearland.
Construction started earlier this year on the final phase of the State Highway 288 Master Plan Improvements. These improvements will include landscape elements, irrigation, lighting, water fountains, pear sculptures, and sidewalks and gateway markers from Beltway to Magnolia. The improvements are expected to be complete in 2023. Over the past twenty-five years, the SH 288 corridor has transformed from a rural area to a major commercial center with millions of square feet of retail, office, two new hospitals and high-quality residential development. Recognizing the importance of the corridor, in 2014 the City, PEDC and businesses in the corridor jointly developed a master plan that identified improvements to enhance the appearance and infrastructure of the corridor and complement the nearly $1 billion investment in the corridor from the 288 managed toll lane project. The implementation of the 288 Master Improvements Plan is a key focus area in the Pearland Prosperity Community Strategic Plan and is being implemented through a partnership between the City, PEDC, PMMD2, in coordination with Brazoria County Toll Road Authority (BCTRA), Brazoria County, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and Blue Ridge Transportation Group (BTG), who have entered into various agreements regarding construction and maintenance of the improvements.

@Knk : what a waste of money. First good hurricane will snap that
Sure hope a hurricane doesn't get it. It really does look good. Hopefully Pearland knows what it is doing.
@Knk ... Thanks for the photos and info on this...How many of you remember when his was fields ????
@NJ99221 : Sure thing. I don't since I haven't lived here that long.
These "enhancements" will be lovely, but isn't there a more practical way to spend all of this money?
@NJ99221 : I remember when most of Pearland was mostly fields and cow pastures. I was a teenager when 288 was built. My friend is a couple of months older than me and had just gotten her drivers license so we went on 288 before it was open and she let me drive her car.
@Michael1960 : I don't know, reasonably low profile, and probably designed to withstand hurricane winds.
