Brazoria County Judge L. M. "Matt" Sebesta, Jr Releases Apology On August 25 during Comissioner's Court, BC Judge Matt Sebesta used insulting and disparaging language to describe residents with civic concerns related to how Brazoria County uses tax money. Judge Sebesta is on record calling residents "*******es" and mentioning that they "don't have the intellectual capacity to understand". Judge Sebesta has released an official apology stating, "On August 25, during Commissioners Court, I used a very poor analogy while discussing how quickly false information can be politicized and spread on social media. I deeply regret my choice of words and sincerely apologize to anyone I offended or hurt. I take full responsibility for what I said and assure you that it will not happen again. Throughout my more than 33 years in elected office, I have proudly supported BACH (Brazoria County Association for Children's Habilitation), and its work serving children with special needs in Brazoria County. I will be making a $2500 donation to BACH as a demonstration of my continued support for these children and their families." Residents remain skeptical of Judge Sebesta, with other officials, such as County Comissioner David Linder denouncing the judge's statements and behavior towards residents of Brazoria County.

@proudpearlander : I can appreciate that Judge Matt Sebesta
gave a written apology. Sounds like he got mad.
Though the people may have a hard time forgetting about it.

@proudpearlander: I'm glad he apologized but that's not something people will forget about.

@proudpearlander : Im sure ALL city, county, state reps think this stuff when speaking. Human nature when angry but you have to use the filter.
At least he apologized but people and social media will keep his bad judgement alive

@Blackbird: It wasn't nice, he literally was referring to a group of people who are challenged in more ways than one. I can't quote it word for word. So it's best it you locate the article. I didn't find it fitting for someone to say especially in his position. But it happens, heβs not the first and won't be the last.

I think he didn't need to insult people's intelligence who are questioning why they are handing out tax breaks.
We need to pay a lot more attention to what tax breaks are being given and why. There's a lot of potential for back door transactions when big businesses are asking for tax breaks. I'm not saying it happened in this case, but I know of some counties where it is expected before decisions are made, and everyone knows it. It pays to watch what happens in local government and how our tax base is being affected.
Also, why are all the county commissioners men? Half the county are women. Come on ladies, we need more of us to step up and run. Did you know they get a salary and insurance? Good perks for the job.
