Big Humphreys and hubcap grill
Hello Pearland (My hometown),
I'm proud and excited to announce that Hubcap Grill (Burgers, fries, and beer) will be opening another new location in Pearland early spring of 2020 located at 5627 Broadway at Big Humphreys Pizza & Italian Restaurant. We're honored that the Vitale family chose Hubcap to take over the space. We have lot of respect for Big Humphreys/Vitale family as this is a staple:institution of Pearland. Therefore when you walk into Hubcap you will see pieces of Big Humphreys throughout and out of respect we will add the "Humphrey Pizza Burger" to our menu. Looking forward to serving the Pearland community! Peace, love, and burgers!

Hate to see BH go, grandkids love making their own pizza😊
@Magnolia832 : Hopefully their hamburgers are as good as BH
WOW... I had no idea about BH closing.... when is the projected date?
@kerrbearsis : Dec 21 will be there last day open
@Magnolia832 : Sad day. Remember Big Humphrey's when I would eat there @ Park Place Blvd. 😪😪😪
@Magnolia832 : I can't say I am sorry to see Big Humphreys closing. When we moved to Pearland from Florida, many people told us how good Big Humphreys was. We decided to take our granddaughters, ages 2 and 5, there for a birthday dinner in February 2014. What a horrible experience! We asked for someone to come and take our payment. My husband asked 3 times and finally someone came to take our payment. My husband made a comment, in a polite manner, that we had asked 3 times to pay the bill before someone came to take the payment. As we were leaving, a woman, who we later found out was Big Humphreys daughter, came to the car and using vulgar language informed us that how dare we made her mother cry. In talking to friends later, we were learned that Big Humphrey had passed away recently and it was his wife that took our payment. We were not aware of this since we had only moved to Pearland from Florida less than 2 months before going there. We never went there again and informed our friends of the way we were treated and we have NEVER recommended this restaurant to anyone else. We live about 1 mile from the restaurant and look forward to trying the new restaurant.
@Magnolia832 : Wow - I did not know they were closing either. Hate to see a Mom&Pop shop close up. Pretty soon we will only have chain restaurants in Pearland.
@TJButter : Maybe you could of tried walking to counter to pay like the rest of us! Seems crazy to fault a restaurant because you demanded someone come take your payment, when everyone else pays at the counter?
I've lived in Pearland for 20+ years and can honestly say we never went in there.
@Joyful3422 : We do not have a problem with paying at the counter and we did NOT demand to see someone. We asked politely if someone could check us out. I mentioned this in my post. Obviously we did not know about Mr. Humphrey's death since we were so new to the community.
@Magnolia832 : I love the Vitale family. They are awesome! I am sad to hear they closed their restaurant. I know how much blood, sweat and tears Glenda and her family shed running it. They deserve the BEST going forward.
The pizza at BH was OK, but kind of pricey for an OK pizza. If the Hubcap Grill in Pearland makes the burgers like they do in downtown Houston, we are in for a treat.
So sad to hear this love their food. Once bought a whole pan of lasagna for a Christmas party at work everyone thought it was mine asked when DoD I have the time to make it. The chain stores charge too much for a plate of pasta with a little meat on it. Oh well back to making my own and freezing it. This is why older people go without when all they need to cook for is just one.
