SH 35 Tollway Project Info

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) State Highway (SH) 35 Tollway Project from Bellfort Ave. to FM 528 includes the construction of approximate 18.5-mile SH 35 tollway alignment, partially on a new location, from Bellfort Ave. in Houston to FM 528 in Alvin.

The project is currently unfunded, however, the City of Pearland is reviewing the project need. The proposed SH 35 tollway would be constructed as a controlled-access tolled facility with auxiliary lanes between on ramps and off ramps, consisting of varying numbers of main lanes in each direction within a typical 300-foot-wide right-of-way (ROW). Within the ROW, an approximately 50-foot-wide future transit preserve would be reserved. The proposed tollway would reconstruct Mykawa Road as a non-tolled frontage from approximately Bellfort Avenue to McHard Road. The proposed tollway will be included in Houston-Galveston Area Council’s (HGAC’s) financially constrained 2040 Regional Transportation Plan.

TxDOT is hosting a Public Meeting for the proposed SH 35 Tollway on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016. The open house starts at 6 p.m. with the hearing at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Pearland ISD Administrative building located at 1928 N. Main St.

TxDOT will be hosting other Public Hearings at the following times/locations:

October 11 - Jones Future Academy/Milby High School (Houston)
October 18 - Nolan Ryan Exhibition Center (Alvin)

TxDOT has prepared a state Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to determine the potential environmental, social, and economic impacts of the proposed State Highway (SH) 35 tollway.

This is not a route I drive often. Is there a need for this? I'm not implying an opinion, just seriously asking for information because it's an issue on which I am completely ignorant. I know rush-hour traffic is crazy-bad in most areas.

@PearlandDotCom
Sorry, I am still new at all of this and I need help understanding this. It says that it's not funded, but Pearland is looking into it. What exactly does that mean? Taxes go up for us to pay for it? I really don't know anything, so treat me like a kindergarten kid
