Southeast Houston Shooting Sends Victim to Pearland Hospital A person who had been shot walked into Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital on Saturday afternoon, and police say one person has been detained in connection with the shooting. The victim did not arrive by ambulance but got to the hospital on their own. Police say the victim is expected to survive. Investigators believe the shooting happened on Monarch Road near Almeda Genoa Road in south Houston. Houston police went to the hospital because Texas law requires hospitals to report gunshot wounds to local police right away. This rule makes sure officers find out about a shooting even when the victim goes straight to a hospital instead of calling 911. Memorial Hermann Pearland has a 24 hour emergency room that can stabilize trauma patients and fly them to larger trauma centers by helicopter if needed. The area near Almeda Genoa Road has seen violence before. In July 2025, a Houston police sergeant was shot and wounded during a shootout near Mykawa Road and Almeda Genoa Road. Police have not said what led to Saturday's shooting or whether the victim and the detained person knew each other. No charges have been announced yet. Officers have also not released the names of the victim or the person in custody. The investigation is ongoing, and more details may come out in the coming days.
