Here is the latest Tropical Weather Outlook information from the National Hurricane Center. Continue to monitor the progress of this system from the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston Texas.

Tropical Depression Eight has strengthened slightly with maximum sustained winds now at 35 mph. The system is expected to intensify further to tropical storm status before making landfall along the Texas coast on Saturday. Now is the time to prepare.

The City of Pearland and the City of Pearland Fire Department has provided some helpful resources below to prepare for an emergency or disaster that could happen anytime.

Houston tends to be a bit coastal.

Well, the highway signs say 30. Which matches the elevation. 30 ft above sea level. Not that it matters, even in 1900 the storm hit Houston. Or if you're into recent history, Harvey. I admit, I don't like Gulf Storms.

@Blackbird : @Stealth83 : My biggest concern about unpredictability relates to storm intensity. It sure seems like they can intensify so much more quickly that what we observed in the past. We can go to bed expecting to experience landfall of a tropical storm or Category 1, and wake up to a Cat 4 or Cat 5.
