Have y'all had a chance to try the the new BBQ spot that opened up recently in Manvel called Old Bucs Barbecue?? If not, do yourself a favor and head down there this Saturday!
At Old Bucs Barbecue, you will enjoy smoked BBQ that's done right. They cook everything over Post Oak and use seasonings and ingredients second to none. Some of their regular menu items include brisket, ribs, sausage, banana pudding, mac-n-cheese and beans (OMG, get the beans!!!). You will also be treated to their homemade sweet and spicy pickles.
Old Bucs Barbecue has actually been catering and serving folks for quite a while...since 2010 as a matter of fact. But they just opened their first brick-and-mortar restaurant during Memorial Day weekend. Before now, you could only get their smoky treats if you came across their trailer when it was parked at a fair or food truck festival...Or if you happened to be attending a wedding or party they were catering. But now they're feeding BBQ lovers from a more permanent location -- 20321 Highway 6 -- every Saturday from 10:30 until they run out.
BJ Terry is the man behind the meat at Old Bucs Barbecue. BJ sells parts for maritime equipment full-time during the week, but has always been passionate about making delicious smoked meat for the masses. Him and others came up with the name for Old Bucs years ago while thinking of what to call their BBQ competition team. BJ grew up in Clute and graduated as a Brazoswood Buccaneer, so Old Bucs seemed a perfect fit.
The "Old Buc" gives a lot of credit to his wife Shelly, his friends and family members for believing in his dream and helping make this happen. BJ had to have some back surgery done just last week, and his brother Linc stepped in to man the pit and help keep everything going for them this past Saturday. He said it was a ton of work and gladly handed the reigns back to BJ afterwards.
Tip-o-the-cap to you for helping out, Linc!
BJ, Shelly and their 3 boys reside in Manvel, which is why they chose the previous Dilly Burger location for Old Bucs. "We were so excited to find a place right here in Manvel close to home," said BJ. "We're only able to open on Saturdays right now, but we're hoping to expand our hours/days in the near future."
