cocosmom : Start by going on line and checking what the taxable value of other houses in your neighborhood are. If you live in a subdivision, look for the same style and size house you have. Then, if you have any problems with your house that could have an effect on your house, list those. I. E. needs a new roof, new fence, anything that would decrease the value of your home. Fill all of this in on the form and submit it to the tax office. If it is a huge amount, they may want pictures and even ask you to come in, so make sure you can prove your claims. They have always been super nice and helpful to us. Since I was able to get the senior exemptions this year, I am undecided on protesting. Getting your taxes lowered is great for you, but remember, it isn't great if you plan to sell your house. It can have an effect on the loan value.
