Pearland, Texas – On September 22, 2021, at approximately 8:24am a Pearland Police Officer was working a traffic complaint of speeding vehicles in the school zone located in the 2000 block of Kirby Dr. The Officer observed a vehicle traveling 48 mph in a posted 20 mph school zone. The Officer stopped the vehicle and was immediately met with an irate driver who then fled the scene as the Officer was attempting to inform her the reason for the stop. The Officer returned to his vehicle and pursued the suspect. When the driver stopped again the officer attempted to make an arrest through verbal commands, but the driver resisted. A second officer arrived and during the attempted arrest an officer deployed a Taser on the actively resisting driver. The female was taken into custody shortly after without injury. The driver was identified as Johneisha Lewis and was arrested for Evading and Resisting Arrest. As with all use of force incidents, the department has initiated an administrative review on the use of force, this review is not complete at this time.

This type of incident seems to be way too common. People run off the tracks when dealing with rules and laws. Escalate simple situations.
I do not care who her brother is.
If caught speeding pull over, take the ticket, and drive off at the speed limit. Pick your battles. Especially if children are involved.
All school zones are well marked. A "normal" speeding ticket is about 250.00 whether paid, or if driver education is chosen. Used to be school zone violations were double or triple. 28mph over the speed limit is Reckless Driving also.
I would be extremely disappointed if being the sister of a LEO killer qualifies someone to have charges dropped due to media pressure.

I got pulled over for speeding in a school zone on back when schools were closed during the pandemic and I felt like the worst person in the world!! I was so scared when I got pulled over and apologized 50 times to the police officer that pulled me over. Guess I was raised differently. I own my mistakes.

Slow it down drivers. That's way to fast to drive in a school zone. Please keep others safe especially our children.
