Street sweeping in the City of Pearland
Did you know street sweeping isn’t just for beautifying the community? The City participates in street sweeping to improve safety and promote environmental sustainability, as well as meet stormwater permit requirements.
With routine street sweeping, debris such as metals, salts, and sand that could enter the City’s waterways are reduced, decreasing the risk of contaminated runoff in the city’s stormwater sewer system, which deposits into surrounding creeks.
Additionally, street sweeping enhances traffic safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists by reducing and eliminating roadway debris such as damaged tires, trash and litter, and even animal carcasses on roadways. In fact, the removal of animal carcasses discourages wildlife from entering the City’s roadways.
