Aggravated Robbery Suspect in jail after targeting victims in Friendswood area Kroger parking lots

From the City of Friendswood:

Friendswood Police investigated two aggravated robberies at two area Kroger stores. Witnesses and victims in the two cases provided important information enabling officers to follow-up on leads and identify the suspect and the suspect vehicle involved.

Here is how the two robberies unfolded:
The first aggravated robbery occurred on October 12 at 8:58 p.m. at the Kroger located at 3135 FM 528. A 42-year old League City woman was approached from behind while returning her grocery cart. The suspect demanded her purse while poking her in the ribs with a knife. The victim gave up her purse, then ran after him while screaming for help. The suspect got into a white minivan with front driver's side damage. A witness was able to get a partial license plate and provided the information to police.
After talking to witnesses and conducting some database analysis, police were able to develop a lead on the possible identity of the suspect and the possible location of the suspect vehicle. The partial license plate provided by a witness was a key factor in determining the suspect's possible identity.
Then, on October 13 at 10:03 p.m., a second aggravated robbery was reported at the Kroger located at 151 N. Friendswood Drive. A 40-year old Pearland woman was robbed at knifepoint in the parking lot as she unlocked the back of her vehicle. The suspect took the victim's purse. The description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle matched that of the suspect and vehicle in the previous day's Kroger robbery.
Officers quickly set up surveillance on the suspect's residence in the 4700 block of Backenberry Drive in the unincorporated area in Harris County (Heritage Park). At 10:20 p.m., officers took Tung Thanah To, 40, of Heritage Park, in custody. He still had the knife used in the robbery in his back pocket and purses belonging to both victims were recovered from his home.
After interviewing the suspect and collecting evidence from the suspect's home, Tung Thanah To was charged with two counts of Aggravated Robbery - one in Harris County and one in Galveston County.

I really wish women would buy a gun, learn to use it, get a carry conceal permit, then tax payers would not have to pay for these thugs over and over!

I carry a gun mainly because I feel insecure in parking lots. But I have to admit that when I imagine a scene like that I recognize that I would probably be so surprised and frightened that I would forget I even had a gun. And I carry the gun in a shoulder bag, so it would get stolen, too. Maybe I should go back to a holster inside my waistband. But that's a real hassle when using a rest room, and it restricts me to shirts that aren't tucked in. I don't want to carry openly because then I would have to constantly watch out for someone trying to snatch the gun away. Aside from the risk, that gun is specially modified for my arthritic hands and it cost about $1,000.
The main thing is to keep looking around and spot anyone approaching you, but that's hard to do when you fall into a routine like loading your groceries into your car. We are all like a herd of antelope in Africa with lions circling in the bushes around us.
