The Pearland Police Department is again flooding an area recently plagued by traffic accidents and unsafe driving practices.

"The Pearland Police Department will have a high police presence in the 3200 Block of Broadway Street and the 2800 Block of Pearland Parkway on Friday, February 1st, 2019, between the hours of 2:00pm and 7:00pm to enforce traffic laws. These areas have seen a 18% increase in accidents due to the following traffic offenses; Speeding, Unsafe Lane Changes, and Failure to Yield Right of Way-Private Drive. I've seen this one a few times, not sure what it means exactly????

The driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from a private road or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching on such highway. Failure to grant the right-of-way as provided by this section shall be an infraction.

I'm pretty sure that's pulling out of a private parking lot or alley onto a road that has through traffic. Even though there's not a physical stop/yield sign at the exit of the lot, you still have to yield to the traffic.

It goes hand in hand with someone zipping through a gas station on a corner to avoid a light, and causes a lot of accidents.

That is correct, the smaller roads have to yield to the bigger road. It really grinds my gears that people decide to pull out of these smaller roads and thus we are forced to slam on the breaks because they cant wait til they have a clear chance to enter the bigger road.

@Sophie1 : I would LOVE to know! Husband saw several officers standing in parking lot entrances, and many cars during the daytime.

Friday evening after dark we were over that way around 8pm ish and OMG I wish the cops would have been out there. We almost had two wrecks from people pulling out in front of us, and watched a minivan pull out in front of TWO 2500/250 size vehicles and take both lanes they were in to turn at the HEB entrance/exit onto 518. I thought they were all gonna die.

@jrkbird : what a shame, I never get out on 518/Pearland Parkway after dark, it's absolutely crazy.
