The Pearland Police Department would like to remind motorists to be mindful of their speed while driving through our residential areas.
"While speeding is always dangerous, it can be especially dangerous in areas where pedestrians are present. The City of Pearland adopts the lowest available speed limit of 30 mph for neighborhoods, which is a speed limit set by the Texas Transportation Code. According to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) a pedestrian struck by a car at 30 mph has a 40% chance of being killed. At 40 mph, that chance doubles to 80%. This is one of the reasons police have little tolerance for speeding in areas frequented by pedestrians." ~

PPD has also said they will have a high police presence in the 2800 Block of Business Center Drive and the 10800 Block of Broadway Street on Friday, January 25th between the hours of 3:00pm and 7:00pm to enforce traffic laws.
"These areas have seen a 44% increase in accidents due to the following traffic offenses; Speeding, Unsafe Lane Changes, and Failure to Yield Right of Way-Private Drive," said PPD Officer Jason Wells in a release. "The overall goal is to educate the motoring public on the importance of following traffic laws. We ask that you drive safely and obey the law."
Please help keep Pearland's streets safer by driving safe speeds, paying attention to the road and setting a good example.
