Registration Extended For PPD Explorer Program

The Pearland Police Department has decided to extend the registration period for their Explorers Program this year.

"Due to an influx of late questions regarding applications and requirements for The Pearland Police Department Explorers program we have decided to extend the application process until Friday, August 10, 2018. All interested applicants must have their paperwork turned in by 12PM in the Police Department lobby located at 2555 Cullen Pkwy. All applications and requirements are currently available for pick up in that same lobby. Applications will not be accepted after Friday. Please contact Officer R. Law Enforcement Exploring is a hands-on program open to young men and women who have completed the 8th grade (14 - 20 years old), interested in a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system. Exploring offers experiential learning with fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of youth. Explorers are instructed in a variety of police-related topics that include: Building Search, Felony Traffic Stops, Crime Scene Search, Accident Investigation, Misdemeanor Traffic Stops, Domestic Crisis Intervention and Arrest and Search Techniques. Explorers also receive instruction in character building, self-motivation and confidence building.

The purpose of the program is to allow citizens to meet the men and women who serve them, to educate citizens in the "how" and "why" of law enforcement, and to provide Police Officers the opportunity to meet and hear from the citizens they serve. The first Citizens Police Academy in Pearland was started in the spring of 1995. There are now over 600 graduates of the Pearland CPA program. The CPA curriculum has become a major focus of job responsibility for the Crime Prevention Officer. The academy is held each spring and fall and stretches for ten weeks of instruction in the various tasks associated with law enforcement.
