The Houston Police Department is still investigating the death of a female bicyclist Wednesday night on the feeder road of the Sam Houston Tollway.
According to the police report, at around 9:35 PM on April 11, a call came into dispatch about a white SUV striking a bicyclist at 12300 South Sam Houston Tollway (on the westbound service road).
HPD and HFD arrived shortly after to investigate and tend to the parties involved. The only injuries reported were to the female who was riding the bicycle. Unfortunately, those injuries were fatal as she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses stated that the female bicyclist had gone northbound, across the lanes of traffic, and then she turned around and headed back to the south right in front of a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was headed westbound on the feeder.
The driver of the Cherokee, who had remained at the scene, was checked for signs of impairment. It was determined they were not under the influence of anything and were released at the scene.
The deceased woman's identity was not released until notification could be made to her next of kin.
HPD is still investigating.
