The CEO and chairman of Dick's Sporting Goods, Edward Stack, took his own stand on gun reform Tuesday in an interview on Good Morning America. He said that "assault-style" guns would no longer be available at any DICK's or Field and Stream location. They will also ban the sale of high-capacity magazines and will raise the minimum age of gun buyers to 21 in all states.
We called both the DICK's Sporting Goods here in Pearland and the Field and Stream at Baybrook Mall to find out what they were saying to customers...
"We just found out about it this morning," said an employee of the Pearland store. "I actually just saw it on TV before coming to work today."
When we called the Field and Stream location, which is the closest "DICK's" location that sells AR-15s, we were told they were no longer available.
Here is part of their statement sent out to media...
Beginning today, DICK’S Sporting Goods is committed to the following:
- We will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles.
- We will no longer sell firearms to anyone under 21 years of age.
- We will no longer sell high capacity magazines.
- We never have and never will sell bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly.
Dick's is also asking elected officials to pass the following regulations:
- Ban assault-style firearms
- Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21
- Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
- Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
- Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms
- Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background checks
