Did anyone else here about a student at Sablatura Middle School showing symptoms of measles. Measles was suppose to be eliminated back 2002.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association — Pediatrics last year found that 88 percent of measles cases in the country “were internationally imported or epidemiologically or virologically linked to importation.” There were a few cases not linked to any kind of importation over a period from 2001 to 2011, but they did not seem to be endemic, researchers said. The study ultimately found that while endemic measles was still eliminated, international importation remained a serious risk.

As long as people are traveling to and from other countries, and as long as some of these people may be unvaccinated and they may come into contact with other unvaccinated people, the risk remains of measles cases in the United States.

@Marshalldillin63

I did hear something on the news 2 or 3 days ago and after doing a search, it appears the lab work has not yet been completed to confirm measles.

Measles hasn't been eradicated.

Pearland ISD released a statement from the Superintendent that this report was incorrect. Please let others know. I believe this link will work. (It did when I copied and pasted.)

@Stealth83 I read an article a day or two ago that because so many parents are refusing to have their children vaccinated, many diseases that we once thought were eradicated are coming back. All our children are affected by this. Scary!

Actually, measles among other illnesses, has never been eradicated. The child may or may not have been vaccinated because of various reasons but given the fact that kids are so crammed together all school day long, I believe they all should be. They're kids and don't have the best hygiene no matter how much we tell them to do this or that. Still, I've not heard for sure if he/she even had that specific illness.

@HillCountry I agree that all children should be vaccinated if they are going to be with other children in public schools, church, movies, etc.

Here's an update on this particular case...

"The Texas Department of State Health Services conducted additional testing on the suspect measles case in Brazoria County at the State lab in Austin on 12/08/2017. It was determined that the case was not measles."
