The City of Pearland’s Hometown Christmas is back and kicking off with the Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting and the Hometown Christmas Parade, on Friday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 4th respectively.
Hometown Christmas Festival continues with a month-long Festival of Lights, presented by the City of Pearland and Second Baptist Church South Campus, transforming Independence Park into a spectacular holiday destination. Festival of Lights is open 5 – 9 p.m. Friday, December 3 to Sunday, January 2.

The City of Pearland’s Hometown Christmas is back and kicking off with the Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting and the Hometown Christmas Parade, on Friday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 4th respectively.
Hometown Christmas Festival continues with a month-long Festival of Lights, presented by the City of Pearland and Second Baptist Church South Campus, transforming Independence Park into a spectacular holiday destination. Festival of Lights is open 5 – 9 p.m. Friday, December 3 to Sunday, January 2.
The free experience will feature more than 100,000 lights, 200 feet of light tunnels, and 283 giant displays and illuminated sculptures. With themed areas such as Pearland Land, Texas Land, Nativity, Whimsical and more, the illuminated wonderland is certain to bring holiday magic and fun for the entire family.
Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting
The City’s traditional Christmas tree lighting will take place on Friday, December 3rd at Independence Park from 6 to 9 p.m.
The event features the HEB’s Winter Wonderland, with snow slides and snow play areas, a fireworks show presented by the University of Houston Clear Lake – Pearland, inflatables, strolling entertainers, a Holiday Gift Market, food vendors and much more.
The community will enjoy a jam-packed program with visitors from City Council, community leaders, Mayor Kevin Cole, and Santa Claus as they comes together to illuminate the tree and spread Christmas cheer for Pearlanders far and near. In addition, UHCL Clear Lake Pearland’s Spirit Squad, Pearland High School’s Kantorei Choir, Second Baptist Church South Campus Jump Team and Puppet Show, the Pearland High School Percussion Program and more!
Hometown Christmas Parade
The following evening the City of Pearland will host its 39th annual Hometown Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 4th beginning at 6 p.m. The holiday parade rolls down FM 518 (Broadway Street), from Old Alvin Road to Pearland Parkway, showcasing local businesses, clubs, organizations and community leaders.
Spectators will enjoy a twinkling collection of decorated floats, marching bands, dance teams, classic cars, and more.
Pearland mayor Kevin Cole will serve as the Grand Marshal for the parade. Mayor Cole was sworn in as mayor in November 2020. Prior to becoming mayor, Cole has a combined nine years of prior City Council service, helping secure the 2007 bond program election, the Cowart’s Creek diversion project, and strategic policy decisions spurring the development of the Lower Kirby district. He also served as a commissioner on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and on various committees and boards for local economic development, such as the Greater 288 Partnership, the Northern
Brazoria County Education Alliance and the Pearland Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Cole has also volunteered with many local nonprofits, such as the Vic Coppinger Family YMCA and various private schools. Cole has been a Pearland resident for 43 years and is a graduate of Pearland High School and Texas Tech University with a BA in Marketing and a minor in Public Relations. He and his wife Lise have four children and 10 grandchildren.
