City of Pearland asking residents to conserve Water.
City post at 4pm. on June 24th.
Due to the persistent Texas heat and recent drought conditions in and around the Pearland area, we've been experiencing an uptick in water consumption across the city. Pearland Water Production is monitoring demand and working to keep the system in good working order, but we would like to encourage residents to conserve water where possible. Some preemptive measures include:
- Watering yards before 9:00 AM and after 7:00 PM, as watering in the evenings and overnight greatly reduces evaporation
- Water plants and yards by hand, as hand watering is more efficient over sprinkler systems which in turn consumes less water
- Use dishwashers and washing machines for full loads only, increasing the efficiency of each load
For full details on how the City of Pearland is approaching the situation along with more information, be sure to visit our website at ow.ly/jGyQ50JH35O

News Regarding Drought Conditions In Pearland.
Post Date:06/24/2022 3:31 pm
The persistent heat and drought in the Pearland area has caused an increase in water consumption that is currently being monitored by the Water Production Division. The City's Drought Contingency Plan has several triggers for this type of situation, but based on current circumstances it has been decided not to implement restrictions at this time.Emoticon

While the City of Houston has implemented Stage 1 drought restrictions, taking into consideration cooler temperatures in the near forecast and the current production and storage capacity of the Pearland Water system, City Administration is not implementing drought restrictions currently but is encouraging water customers to be mindful of usage. The Water Production Division will be working through the weekend to make sure the system is maintained, and storage tanks remain full, but you can take steps to help prevent drought restrictions. I'm hoping that today is the last day I have to put my sprinkler on for a while. I've been trying to only use it every other day, so tomorrow is my off day and hopefully we'll get some rain on Monday!

What Is the City Doing To Help? Emoticon
The City Water Production Division is working diligently to maintain the current volume of water production and doing everything in their power to prevent that from decreasing - responding to and fixing water leaks when they occur (there have been 12 main breaks so far in June, which is up from 9 last year), Emoticon
maintaining water production plants, wells, and storage tanks to make sure they are operating effectively, and monitoring consumption to keep stakeholders informed and provide the data to make thoughtful decisions in the best interest of the community.
Emoticon
Representatives from the City will also be reaching out directly to major water users in the system to work with them to achieve voluntary water use reductions. Customer Service Representatives are available to answer questions and provide recommendations to any customer.
Emoticon You can reach Customer Service by calling 281.652.1603. Emoticon

The Water Production Division will continue to monitor consumption levels versus production, and if the weather doesn't cool down or if there is a significant failure in the current capacity, City Administration will consider implementing Stage 1 drought restrictions.
Emoticon I hope the tropics disturbance brings the promising rain! Emoticon

We had our sprinkler guy come out last week. We had three bad valves that were leaking water. We had all the valves replaced when we moved in to our current house 16 years ago. I was surprised we only had three that leaked. We've seen some people run theirs at 3pm. Never understood why they'd run it during the hottest part of the day when their lawn, foundation & plants don't get the benefits of water as a large percentage will evaporate in this heat.

@pathill1980 : that's great those were fixed!
I've also seen sprinklers on during the hot day. Guess they are just not noticing.
The water beads on the grass acts as microscopic lenses and
increases the heat, which then burns the greenery. Evaporation is another issue.
Growing plants and grasses is like a science of sorts. Lol
