4th 0f JULY concert cancelled

Unfortunately, we will not be pushing forward with the July 4th performance. The Officers and I had an emergency meeting to discuss the last response from Pearland's Independence Day event coordinator, Mychal Mitchell. While we try to be as accommodating as possible to our performance hosts, asking ya'll to carry in/out instruments (some over-sized), music folders, stand, AND a chair nearly half a mile, only to play under the heat of the sun is simply asking too much. More specifically, we were being limited to two "equipment vehicles" due to a lack of parking spaces (except for Handicap parking), which would would have forced us to meet up somewhere nearby one of the park entrances between 4:30-4:45 pm, load up the vehicles, make sure that the vehicles get into the park before gates are closed off at 5pm, then walk into the park, help unload the vehicles, then carry everything into the amphitheater. We would have had to set up (in the sun) on the grassy area in front of the stage, warm up by 5:15-5:30, perform 45min, clear the grassy area, return the equipment to the vehicles and walk back to wherever our meeting was outside of the park. We felt that that this would pose a serious hardship for several of our members.
Mr. Mitchell has been notified and understands. I encouraged him to remember us for any future city events, where logistics were more feasible (and reasonable).
Due to this change, we did not feel it necessary to continue practicing and decided to end our season as of today. We do have a performance scheduled in the fall, so we will be sending out another email in a few weeks on the start of our 2022-23 season. We will most likely meet up in August instead of waiting after Labor Day. We will try to get music sent out beforehand, so that we can just jump in on our first rehearsal.
In the meantime, on behalf of the Officers and Band Directors, thank you for a wonderful 2021-22 season. As always, we overcame a couple of hiccups, but had an awesome Music Festival to close it off! We wish you and your families a wonderful and safe summer.
See you in a couple of months......and bring a friend, or two to join us!

The event itself is not cancelled, just the concert by the community band
