@susieq : Yup, as I grew up my bday was in Nov. The year I turned 18 the drinking age was raised to 19. The year I turned 19 it was raised to 21.
I've never raised a teenager, but what I've seen, most things should be delayed, and assault weapons are certainly one of them. How many 16 year olds are still married, in a good relationship, 10 years later? Yes, I'm sure there are a few, but I've seen the divorce rates here in a no-fault state. All you have left is children in broken homes.

@Blackbird : I have raised 3, and now have grands. In my experience, boys mature slower than girls. They are much more prone to being less responsible. There ARE exceptions to that rule, I can only speak from my own kids. Right now, I have two that are 3 years apart. One will be 18 in July. He seems to jump before he thinks, then realize maybe he should have thought about things more. Other one just turned 15. He is pretty responsible, but still has teen "memory blanks," aka "I didn't think of that, or I forgot." Then we have a soon to be 12 year old boy. He puts himself to bed, manages his own wardrobe and clothing choices, and even fixes his own lunch.

Each child is different, Unfortunately, we can't design a new law/rule for each child. We can't even group them. It has to be blanket coverage. I would like to see having to pass a class, not just a test, but a class then a test for all new gun owners before purchase. This would not be an end all solution, but maybe a start.

@susieq : Yup, and instead the law makers, with the backing of the NRA, took those checks and tests away. Or at least made it less strenous.

The real expert on these shootings.

Miah, the 11-year-old girl who covered herself in her classmate's blood to survive the Uvalde shooting, is going to testify next Wednesday at the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.
She *just* survived combat-veteran-level trauma and she's going in to be questioned by Republicans

@Dorothy : If you want to take exception to this, talk to her parents. They say she wants to testify. Since this committee is made up of 25 Democrats, 19 Minority, and 19 Republicans, are you saying only the minority group of Republicans are the only ones that will be asking any questions? Really?

@Stealth83 : She will probably tell them how horrible it was from her point of view. I don't see how she can give expert opinion or facts, it will just be emotion.

If she were my child, she would be talking to a good psychologist, not put on public display to have her emotions exploited.
