THIEVES ARE ACTIVE!! BEWARE!!! THIEVES ARE ACTIVE!!
While dining at Cracker Barrel off 288, couple walked in and seated themselves at the empty table next to my family despite being only a few families in whole restaurant.
When the man sat down he had big down like coat. He banged my son's chair hard distracting me and within a few minutes they left without ordering! Within a few minutes I moved my chair back and saw some of my cards/license on floor that had dropped out and my wallet was gone! Literally 3 minutes since I had gotten card out to pay! They were gone! 10 minutes later I got fraud alert call from credit card company! Within a 13 minute window, thousands of dollars, spent at 2 separate Sam's clubs! This is a professional ring!!! In speaking with Sam's fraud agent, 8-10 stores on list I saw were hit since New Years. All buying gift cards!!! My mistake was sitting my purse down! Should have been alerted when they sat down like they did with near empty restaurant! Looks like they are targeting Restaurants so they have time to steal and run and spend while you eat!

@Magnolia832 : I guess the thieves don't like to get a decent job. It's much easier to still from hard working people. Makes me so upset 😡

This is why I carry a card, in my pocket. A purse is an easy target, and thieves are experts at getting things out of them.

I had a friend drop a credit card in a store one night, within 10 mins they'd bought a big screen across the road for over a grand. Since she didn't realize she'd dropped it, she reported the theft more than 24 hours later, and the credit union held her responsible.

@Blackbird : she should not have. Most I've seen is $50 liability for fraud when card reported. Many don't even do that. Your friend needs to pursue this with credit union

Credit unions don't always have the same rules as banks. We didn't drop a card, but made a purchase, and within 15 minutes our bank called us to see if we had made some more purchases. As soon as we told them no, the card was canceled, replaced, and we were not charged.

If and I say If you feel the need for a purse.. try the cross body purses.. and
never remove it while away from the home... I used to carry purses... hooked it on the back of
my chair... wallet was taken.... never again... Not worth the loss just to carry a big expensive purse...

Wow all this is so terrible. I know this is done all the time. But so hard for me to believe. I'm so honest and it's hard for me to accept.

I had this happen many years ago, left my purse sitting in front part
of grocery shopping cart, bent down to lift laundry detergent, and then my purse was gone.
I ran through the store, no purse snatcher was seen.

Takeaway - Never let your purse out of sight.
Apparently I had a thief watching me while shopping. Creepy

Also I've used a cross body since.
Love the Baggallini brand has anti-theft components, designed for travelers.
I find them at Marshalls & TJ Max, and last for years.

All credit cards provide protection against fraud, and by law you're not liable for more than $50 of fraudulent charges (assuming you catch the fraud and report it).
