I have used the drive thru food banks and the other ones 3 times. You are allowed to pick up for disabled people or friends. I did that and felt very good helping others. Didn't end well after the 3rd time… I will leave it at that and just pray for the family I was helping. 🙏

@cocosmom : It is sad when you are trying to help someone and it goes bad. All you can do is realize you did the right thing, how they chose to use it is on them.

When I give to someone, I give from my heart, because I feel that is what I should do. If they take that gift and blow it, or waste it, that is on them, not me. I did what I was supposed to, and that is the only thing I am accountable for. Even though the last time went bad, someday, it may come back to them as a teaching moment. Who knows, they may remember what you did, and how they reacted, and it could make a positive change in their life or attitude. You planted kindness, and like karma, everything that goes around, comes around. You may not be there to see it, but it will. Some people call it the Law of Reciprocity, aka, "What ever a man shall do will be returned to him, good measure, pressed down and running over shall men give unto his bosom."

@susieq : Thank you so much. Remembering karma and truly being a benefactor of the law of reciprocity in my life is often the only thing that allows me to do a good deed after being burned so many times.

@MalluGuy : I know how hard it is to feel like you are being used, been there and done that. Like I said, as long as I am giving and doing for the right reasons, any misuse on their part is on them. My heart is clear, and it will come back to them someday.

@cocosmom : Not to pry, or ask for details, but was the problem with the pick-up or the delivery? Was it the family who weren't appreciative?

@cocosmom : Well, now you know. Find a more appreciative family next time, I'm sure there's plenty out there.

@Blackbird : Maybe a senior? I am sure if you asked at the senior center they would have names of people who could use a food box being dropped off.

@susieq : Brilliant idea! I love helping when there are children involved. But seniors I would consider as well.

My 90+ father delivered for Meals, most of the time he was older than the folks he was delivering to.

@Blackbird : Back in the olden days, the high school I went to had service groups. I was the service project person for mine. Every month I had to come up with a new project to serve the community. For December one year, we went to the county nursing home, not a very nice place. We took fruit, stationary, stamps and envelopes. this was back in the day when people wrote letters. We also took lotions and socks, We walked through the halls handing out these little gifts and singing carols for a couple of hours. This wasn't the only thing we did, but it was one of the most appreciated.
Some of the others were putting cookies in the teacher's lounge for appreciation day, doing story time at low income day care and sending each child home with a book. I think what put it over the top was holding a car wash, then taking the money and buying racks and paper back books for the library. At the end of the year, we won the award for Service Club of the Year. I have always enjoyed helping people when I can. Sometimes, it is hard for me to realize that now people look at me as "the old lady who needs a hand." Such is life.

@susieq : You know, I get that whole 'ole lady' thing. I used to be the one helping others, now they think they should be helping me.

@Blackbird : YES! It is like Ruth Buzzy on Laugh In when she played Morgul the friendly drelb. These helpful people will be trying to help me, because they know I need it, and I am hanging on to my bag telling them I DON'T NEED HELP! If I carried a purse, I might even be whacking a few of them on the head.
