Princettias... Definitely in the Poinsettias family, but narrower bracts, and a distinctively bright, pink color!!!

Love 💗 this color let alone the red poinsettias for our home for Christmas

I was able to grow a poinsettia plant bought from the store in a large container a few years ago but I could never get the leaves to turn red.

@MalluGuy : Very cool. I don't have a green thumb. I kill everything. At least you were able to grow one. My mom had a poinsettia for over 10 years. She takes good care of plants. I over water everything.

My parents were huge gardeners because they both grew up on farms. It came so naturally to them. They never used any chemicals or store bought fertilizers or soil amendments and yet always had an abundance of fruits and vegetables to share with friends and neighbors from their small backyard garden. I on the other hand am constantly struggling in my garden with all sorts of pests and diseases. I do get a small harvest but no where near what my parents would.

@MalluGuy : I have to say, mine has done pretty well this year. I am cooking green beans we picked today.

@susieq : I did really well with green beans and peppers this year as well. I had a huge infestation of leaf spot all through my garden though. I lost all my watermelon and apples.

@MalluGuy : Wow, that is a loss. My tomatoes did not do well at all. Enough to eat, but not really enough to can or freeze. Okra and green beans outdid themselves. Oh, and my one cucumber. I gave them to friends, neighbors, just about anyone who would take them, and still made 7 jars of pickles.

@susieq : What do you do with all the Okra you get? I know it's very hardy and does well. it's just too slimy for me.

@MalluGuy : Most of the time, I bread it and fry till crispy when fresh. I also add small amounts to vegetable soup, and gumbo. I found a recipe for okra curry I wanted to try, but my husband won't let me make curry in the house. I also blanch, slice, bread, and freeze on a cookie sheet, then bag. I can take out the exact amount I want to fry. I have also given away quite a bit.

I love okra!!!!! A trick for reducing sliminess is to soak the okra in vinegar for half an hour before cooking it. Rinse it and pat dry before cooking.

You can also pre-cook okra at very high heat by sautéing, roasting, blanching or grilling. Then add cooked okra to your recipe and there will be hardly any slime at all.
