Even as the coronavirus spreads across the United States - shutting down businesses, sporting events and schools - the CDC's advice around masking remains unequivocal: Healthy people who do not work in the healthcare sector and are not taking care of an infected person at home do not need to wear masks.

in some ways i agree with what you are saying they said but they also said healthy "americans do not need to wear them". Most americans will interpret this as "NO MASKS" as we saw. A home made or cloth mask is as good as no mask imo because of the size of the virus particles.
We shutdown factories to make ventilators but for some reason doing the same to make masks to slow the spread was not important. the virus still spears no matter if we work in healthcare or not. i mean spread amongst the community is what caused fear of overloading the hospitals . i guess my thoughts are why not protect everyone when we are capable i mean we've spent 10-12 trillion dollars now.
i appreciate your kind words we are doing our best hospital has opened up visitation to a higher level this week.
to your point it seems you me and others here are still looking at WHAT is right to believe. the messages are misconstrued and don't make definitive sense.
