I was doing a pharmacy CE on headlice a few years back. Cetaphil lotion is a good remedy. You put it on, let it sit, and the lice start to come out and be reachable. Then you comb and comb and begin to understand the meaning of nit picking. Of course there is also the old fashioned treatment of kerosene, just stay away from open flames for a few weeks.

I've never noticed it before. Says they can get rid of head lice in one hour.

I saw that the other day! Thought I misread the sign. I've never in my life heard of a "lice clinic". Wonder if they use Ivermectin as treatment? Hmmmmm...How would a clinic work anyway? You have to wash and vacuum everything at home to be completely rid of them.

@HillCountry : I noticed only because of the postings. Thought what a strange business.
Website says there are take-home solutions.
Guess head lice is quite a problem.

@Txtoast : It is strange. You can go to almost any store and buy a treatment kit yourself. I've had them twice- once as a child and once as an adult so yes, they can be a problem. Especially if you have long, clean hair that is free of styling products/oils. As an adult, I went to a doctor because I thought there's no way I have lice, though my scalp was itching badly. Damn doctor didn't diagnose me with lice. She said it was just dry scalp. That was 20 years ago! Scary how a "doctor" misdiagnosed such a common problem when we were already in the year of 2001. I didn't know I should've been spraying my hair with hairspray and keep it tied up while working in a daycare. Friend who worked for a gov't run daycare when we were in high school told me of this tip afterwards.

The first time my kids got them, it was from a neighbor's child. I saw one, didn't know what it was, and took them to the dr. He diagnosed the problem and told me what to do. I told the neighbor, trying to be nice, and her answer? "Oh, yes, my girls had them a couple of weeks ago. I guess I should have told you." The next time, it was someone my daughter baby sat for. She was nice enough to tell me. My daughter had very thick, long hair and it took two bottles of that Nix to get them out for two treatments. Lice clinics have become popular in many areas. I saw the one on Broadway a couple of weeks ago. I hope we never need their service.

@cocosmom : It is a shop that does nothing but treat head lice. They make it seem like less of a stigma, more like a beauty shop experience.
