Moving

What a miserable, horrid thing to do. I haven't done it in a while, but I have some questions. First, is there an easier, low-cost substitute for Sunday papers? They're so expensive, and half those useless glossy ads.

Second, are we just resigned to 'buying' boxes now? I use to know where to go to get free ones, but those don't seem to exist. I have gotten some from people who recently moved, but I need a whole lot more.

@Blackbird : You are moving! Where are you going? Staying in Texas or going out of state? As far as boxes I have no idea where you could get them free of charge. In my neighborhood as people moved in they would put it on Facebook that they had free boxes. If any come up will let you know

@Blackbird : I too see posts on free moving boxes on social media pages,
that fb group is Talk of Pearland.
Then sometimes the recycle center has free moving boxes that are broken down.
Though center is closed for holiday weekend pearlandrecycles.com /

I used a lot of Rubbermaid totes last time. They are sturdier than most boxes, and you can even get some that the handles flip over the top to lock now. I also was able to reuse some.

@susieq : My SIL is the queen of those, but I've acquired 6 new ones in the last week. I'll find uses for them.

I'm staying put, moving about 10 miles away (I think), and not until Oct. After my brother's death I just don't need a 5 bedroom house anymore! I'm mostly trying to get rid of his stuff, mine is all worth keeping!

And last time I moved, I bought 2 or 3 editions of the Sunday paper to use as packing.

@Blackbird : 1/2 Price Boxes is my go to place, and then Walmart (as much as I dislike them). We're moving at the end of September and I'm using about 80 boxes, I'd guess.
